As of June 4, 2025, U.S.–Iran nuclear negotiations are at an impasse. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has firmly rejected a U.S. proposal that would limit Iran’s uranium enrichment to 3%, calling it “100% against our interests” and labeling American leaders as “arrogant.” He emphasized that uranium enrichment is central to Iran’s nuclear program and national self-reliance. Despite five rounds of indirect talks mediated by Oman, significant disparities remain unresolved, particularly Iran’s determination to maintain domestic uranium enrichment. President Trump has intensified his “maximum pressure” strategy, reinstating sanctions and threatening military action to curb Iran’s nuclear capability. The strained relations are exacerbated by Iran’s internal crises and threats from Israel, which views Iran’s nuclear development as a direct peril. Tehran has pledged to respond strongly to any military aggression.
