Jamshid Chalangi is an Iranian-American journalist, author, and former broadcaster known for his critical perspectives on media coverage of Iran. Born in Masjed Soleyman, Iran, in 1948, he began his journalistic career in the 1960s with the publication Khosheh and later worked with Tamasha magazine and Iran’s national radio and television. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Chalangi co-founded the independent newspaper Bamdad and contributed to Jom’e-ye Ketab alongside Ahmad Shamlou. Following his departure from Iran in 1983, he worked with various international media outlets, including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America (VOA). Chalangi was known for his outspoken critiques of the Iranian regime and its supporters, both in Iran and abroad. In 2012, he was dismissed from VOA Persian amid controversies over its programming and management. He has since remained an active voice in Iranian diaspora media, advocating for independent journalism and democratic reforms.
