Mehdi Nasiri is an Iranian journalist and former editor-in-chief of the state-run newspaper Kayhan. Born in 1963 in Damghan, Iran, he began his religious studies in 1975 and continued his education at the Qom Seminary. Nasiri’s career in journalism includes roles as the editor-in-chief and managing director of the weekly Sobh and the daily newspaper Kayhan. In 1994, after the appointment of Hossein Shariatmadari as the representative of the Supreme Leader in Kayhan, Nasiri resigned from his positions. He later launched the political and cultural magazine Sobh, which continued publication until 1999. In 2001, he was appointed as the political deputy of the Policy-Making Council of Friday Imams nationwide, serving until 2005. In 2005, Nasiri assumed the position of cultural deputy at the office of the Supreme Leader’s representative in the United Arab Emirates, returning to Iran in 2009 upon completing his mission. Nasiri has authored four books, including Islam and Modernization, Philosophy from the Perspective of the Quran and Tradition, The Social Status of Women in Islam, and Avini and Modernity. He is also the owner and editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine Samat. In recent years, Nasiri has been critical of the Iranian regime and has been involved in various cultural and artistic endeavors
