Alayar Kangarlu (also seen as Alahyar Kangarlou) is an Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Director of MRI Physics & Engineering at Columbia University’s Department of Psychiatry, and a senior physicist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. With a PhD in Physics, he specializes in developing cutting‑edge neuroimaging techniques—especially high‑field MRI, diffusion MRI, MRS, and transcranial magnetic stimulation—to study brain function and psychiatric disorders.
